Aim

This course combines components of the L2 Gym Based Exercise and L3 Diploma in Personal Training in one Qualification

Learners knowledge of:

  • Anatomy and physiology, Functional kinesiology and concepts and components of fitness
  • Nutrition for exercise, health and fitness
  • Lifestyle and medical factors that affect wellbeing
  • Analysis of client information using the most accepted techniques
  • Assessment of clients current health and fitness status
  • Planning and conducting of physical activity sessions within a variety of environments using multiple resources
  • Clients consultations using the most accepted methods and providing strategies for successful behaviour change
  • Communication skills to effectively build successful relationships with their clients and other health care professionals
  • Legal and professional requirements for personal training
  • How to set up and manage a personal training business on a self employed basis if they wish to
  • How to manage, evaluate and improve own performance

Entry Requirements

Some experience of Gym Based Exercise including free weights is highly recommended.

The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication, (discussion, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basics skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Target Learners

Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as a Fitness Instructor.

Instructors who wish to further their career in the health and fitness sector as a Personal Trainer.Please note that 16-18 year olds may need to be surpervised in the workplace once they have achieved the qualification.

Qualification Structure

This qualification comprises of 11 units

  • Unit 1 – Principles of Anatomy Physiology amd Fitness
  • Unit 2 – Professionalism and Customer Care for Fitness Instructors
  • Unit 3 – Health and Safety in the Fitness Environment
  • Unit 4 – Conducting Clients consultation to support positive behaviour change
  • Unit 5 – Planning and Instructing Gym Based Exercise
  • Unit 6 – Applied Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise, Health and Fitness
  • Unit 7 – The Principles of Nutrition and their application to Exercise and Health
  • Unit 8 – Understanding Lifestyle, Health, Wellbeing and Common Medical Conditions
  • Unit 9 – Encouraging Positive Health and Fitness Behaviours in Clients.
  • Unit 10 – Programme Design and Delivery for Personal Training
  • Unit 11 – Professionalism and business Acumen for Personal Trainers

Successful completion of all eleven units is necessary to achieve the full qualification.
