Aim

To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to:

  • understand the role of a sports conditioning coach.
  • understand the principles of programming for sports conditioning.
  • understand sporting demands and how they can be used to inform effective sports conditioning programming.
  • be able to plan sports conditioning programmes to improve performance.
  • be able to instruct effective sports conditioning sessions.

Entry Requirements

Learners must hold at least one of the following:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym, ETM, Aqua) or equivalent
  • Level 2 Coaching qualification
  • Level 2 Activity Leadership qualification

The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication, (discussion, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basics skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Target Learners

Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as a Sports Coach or Fitness Instructor

Personal Trainers

Please note that 16-18 year olds may need to be surpervised in the workplace once they have achieved the qualification.

Qualification Structure

This qualification comprises of 2 units:

  • Unit 1 – Principles of Sports Conditioning
  • Unit 2 – Plan, deliver and evaluate sports conditioning programmes

Successful completion of all two units is necessary to achieve the full qualification.
