Aim

  • To develop learners’ knowledge and skills in fitness instruction through Group Training  to a professionally competent level enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective Group Training sessions.
  • This qualification will provide a combination of knowledge and skills to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective Group Training programmes to a range of clients. 

Although the qualification is designed to offer entry to employment learners can also progress onto the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training
  • Level 3  Diploma in Exercise Referral
  • Level 3 Award in Designing Prenatal and Postnatal Exercise Programmes

Successful achievement of this qualification will provide entry to the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) as an affiliate member (exercise and fitness). 

Entry Requirements

The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication, (discussion, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basics skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Target Learners

Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as an Exercise to Music Fitness instructor

Please note that 16-18 year olds may need to be surpervised in the workplace once they have achieved the qualification.

Qualification Structure

This qualification comprises of  6 units:

Learners must complete the four mandatory units and at least one of the optional units, learners can complete both units if required.

Mandatory Units – Learners must successfully complete each of these units to obtain the qualification

  • Unit 1 – A/616/7499 Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness Level 2   (Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise)
  • Unit 2 – D/617/1108 Professionalism for group training Level 2   
  • Unit 3 – H/617/1109 Health and safety in a group training environment Level 2   
  • Unit 4 – Y/617/1110 Supporting behaviour change and healthy lifestyles Level 2   

Optional Group – Learners must successfully complete at least one of the optional units, learners can complete both units if required

  • Unit 5 – D/617/1111 Planning and instructing group training sessions Level 2   
  • Unit 6 – H/617/1112 Planning and instructing group training to music sessions Level 2

Assessment

Coursework/Project, Multiple Choice Examination, Portfolio of Evidence,Practical Demonstration/Assignments
