Aim

To develop learners’ knowledge and skills in fitness instruction through Exercise to Music to a professionally competent level enabling them to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective Exercise to Music sessions.

This qualification will provide a combination of knowledge and skills to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective Exercise to Music programmes to a range of clients.

Although the qualification is designed to offer entry to employment learners can also progress onto the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Sessions
  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Studio Cycling Sessions
  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Aqua)
  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Children)
  • Level 3 Award In Designing Exercise Programmes for Older Adults
  • Level 3 Award in Designing Pre and Post Natal Exercise Programmes
  • Level 3 Award In Designing Exercise Programmes for Disabled Clients

Successful achievement of this qualification will provide entry to the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) as an affiliate member (exercise and fitness).

Entry Requirements

The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary. There is an element of communication, (discussion, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basics skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Target Learners

Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as an Exercise to Music Fitness instructor.

Please note that 16-18 year olds may need to be surpervised in the workplace once they have achieved the qualification.

Qualification Structure

This qualification comprises of 6 units:

  • Unit 1 – Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise
  • Unit 2 – Know how to Support Clients who take part in Exercise and physicaL activity.
  • Unit 3 – Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment
  • Unit 4 – Principles of Exercise, fitness and Health. Conducting
  • Unit 5 – Planning Group Exercise to Music Sessions
  • Unit 6 – Instructing Group Exercise to Music Sessions

Successful completion of all six units is necessary to achieve the full qualification.
