Aim

To train learners to a professionally competent level enabling them to plan and deliver safe and effective group and individual exercise sessions for children aged 5-11 and 11-15 (the those of activity’s and delivery methods for these age groups are distinctly different).

This qualification aims to develop learners’ knowledge of anatomy and physiology and how it relates to exercise and fitness and children’s development.
It aims to develop learners knowledge of health and safety, child protection and building relationships in a fitness environment.

Learners can also progress onto the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Sessions
  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Studio Cycling Sessions
  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (ETM)
  • Level 2 Award in Adapting Fitness Instruction for Adolescents
  • Level 3 Award In Designing Exercise Programmes for Older Adults
  • Level 3 Award in Designing Pre and Post Natal Exercise Programmes
  • Level 3 Award In Designing Exercise Programmes for Disabled Clients

Entry Requirements

The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication, (discussion, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basics skills in communication pitched at level 2.

Target Learners

Adults (aged 16+) wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as water based fitness instructors.

Please note that 16-18 year olds may need to be supervised in the workplace once they have achieved the qualification.

Qualification Structure

This qualification comprises of 6 units:

  • Unit 1 – Anatomy & Physiology for Exercise
  • Unit 2 – Know how to Support Clients who take part in Exercise and physical activity.
  • Unit 3 – Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment
  • Unit 4 – Principles of Exercise, fitness and Health. Conducting
  • Unit 5 – Planning Health related exercise and physical activity for children
  • Unit 6 – Instructing Health related exercise and physical activity for children

Successful completion of all six units is necessary to achieve the full qualification.
